Journey to heaven.

I LOVE you Sebastien, Love you too Molly.  Come fly away with me to heaven.

The road is long With many a winding turn That leads us to heaven.

I’m strong enough to carry her. So on we go. Her welfare is my concern. No burden is she to bear, We’ll get there.

We are laden with sadness That everyone’s heart is filled with sadness too, about the emptiness we leave behind.

We will miss you too.

It’s a long, long road From which there is no return.

We’re on the way to there.

To heaven

together till eternity

May 2018; Both Molly and Sebastien passed away short after each other. They were 2 young vulnerable babies bonded in life, through death and in their journey to heaven. In their short life’s they were surrounded 24/7 with all love and best care possible thanks to Roxy and her team.

Molly’s mum was shot dead during a hunting accident, leaving 8 month old Molly alone, deeply traumatized and injured. Some six days after the accident, the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Authority instructed ZEN to uplift Molly and bring her to the specialized elephant calf facility in Harare. Molly arrived in a severe state of dehydration and illness at Wild is Life and ZEN. She had an intestinal impact which was life threatening. She went into kidney failure. She exhibited disturbing neurological signs and pain. She was not able to flap one ear and neither was she able to suck. She was afraid to lie down. She was unable to walk in a straight line. Over the past 18 days the ZIM-team had cared for Molly around the clock. They have pushed their own physical boundaries beyond the limits and  have pushed Molly’s own will to fight and survive. It has been a battle hard fight.

During this critical time of near death, Molly has shown an indomitable will, a grace and determination that was amazing. The other Zim-Ellies loved her and were very concerned, especially Sizi who took little Molly under her wings.  Moyo, Sizi Annabelle, Kukurakura, Matabele, Tulku and Mfana have gathered her up in their embrace, loved her and helped restore her faith in life.

Roxy’s words: When the world seems so filled with anger, this image of universal maternal love brings so much hope.

Mirabelle was not too keen on being a full-time Mum though.  She rather liked the freedom that comes with an army of nannies for her son ad his friend Mouse too. So, she came in and out, when she felt like it, does a spot of mothering, then heads off back to her normal activities. Meanwhile, Sebastien and Mouse had created a firm friendship and are both developing beautifully, thanks to their dedicated keepers, Richard and Amos.

Mouse the young male Kudu sort of took over the role of mother for Sebastien. He felt very responsible and made sure that the Sebastien got all the care he needed. Mouse watched over Sebastien till he fell asleep, perhaps he even ‘sung’ him a lullaby’.

I will look after you no worries Sebastien, sais Mouse the kudu.
Little Molly became friends with both of them. Molly was sad and mourning the loss of her mama. Sebastien felt sorry for her.
He said to her; ‘my mama can’t look after me properly, she doesn’t know how to. So Mouse is my mama too now, he can be your mama as well.”.
Molly was still grieving; No thank you my mama was right beside me. Suddenly we heard strange threatening noise like explosions. My mama screamed, was bleeding and collapsed on the ground. I tried to protect her. I have a mama, she is gone I miss her, I want my mama back”.
‘I am sorry Molly’, Mouse and Sebastien both said. ‘I can be your friend though, if you want me to.’ said Mouse.
‘And I will look after you like a big sister, Sizi said; ‘And I will introduce you to our human mama Roxy and show you around the house’,
Moyo said; ‘We all are your family now dear Molly’
Wise Annabelle said;’We all are as one bonded by faith and love.’
And so it happened. Molly bonded every day more to her new family. During the day she was in the company of Sebastien who was same age and the young male kudu Mouse, who nurtured the 2 babies.

Every morning and from end of the day the Zim Ellies kept her company as well. About 30 minutes before they returned home Sizi, Moyo and the other Zim Ellies sent a signal to Molly to let her know they were on their way back.

Every day 30 minutes before the Zim Ellies came home Molly started to feed from wheelbarrow
Whilst little Miss Molly is not able to go out with the big herd yet, she certainly takes advantage at feed time, stealing tit bits from the wheelbarrow before the arrival of the “big kids”! At ZIM they always find it fascinating that she perks up tremendously, about 20 minutes before the rest of the herd arrives … she somehow knows that they are on their way and that a reunion is about to take place. Hopefully, she will be able to walk out with them again soon.
Annabelle and Sizi guided little Molly every day until she could walk in a straight line and not only in circles anymore.

Annabelle, Molly and Sizi learned Molly to walk straight.
Roxy and the keepers watched over day and night with 24/7 love and care and dedication.

Molly’s condition went up and down, she had many set backs. The campaign Molly-strong was founded to raise funds to build a therapy pool. ZIM was filled with many art-elephants to sell to raise funds. Molly loved the art-elephants who were exhibited at ZIM. , some were same size like her. Thanks to  donations a therapy pool was realized to give Molly more physical comfort.

With support of her loyal patchwork family Molly turned out to be a true survivor. Annabelle is the master in survival, she told Molly how to rebuilt strength and Sizi was like a mini mother to her and Moyo, well she was Moyo her own way as always.

Night time in the Nursery is always the most blissful period of the day … gentleness, rejuvenation and healing.

Miss Molly is sleeping on her left side, for the first time since she arrived at the Nursery. This is significant, as it means the pain from her burst ear drum, and other injuries, are starting to improve.  A huge miracle after so many weeks recovery. With keeper January close by her side Molly dreamed peacefully.

Sweet dreams little Miss Molly! xxx

Unfortunately after few weeks Molly ’s health was again in danger. She suffered tremendous pain and problems. Roxy and her team spent 24/7 with the vulnerable babies to help them get through this difficult health episode.
At some point Molly seems to give up, her fragile body was too exhausted to beat another challenge and her loyal friend Sebastien slipped away in health as well. The team worked around the clock to be able to make both of them recover well.
When life becomes suffering heaven starts calling;
-Sebastien?
-Yes Molly
-I don’t feel so well
-why?
-I can’t barely eat, lay down, and eat. My head hurts, my jaw hurts and I still miss my mama. I wish she was here too
-Try to sleep Molly, tomorrow it will be better, I miss my mama too and her milk, I don’t feel all to well too. Tomorrow it will be better.
Yes Molly Yes Sebastien, we and everyone here at ZIM will make sure both of you will feel better tomorrow and every day after, Sizi and Mouse said.
– Sebastien?
– yes Molly
– I don’t think it will be better tomorrow, I hear my mama calling me from heaven.
– I will stay with you no matter what, I love you Molly
– I wish you too to come with me, to my mama, Love you too Sebastien
Mouse?
-yes Sebastien
– I stay with molly, she needs me
– Sizi?
– yes Molly
– bye Sizi thank you for being my sister and family, bye Moyo tell Roxy thank you love her, bye Annabelle, Matabele, Tulku Mfana, Kukurakura
– Sebastien?
– yes Molly
– will you join me?
– yes Molly till eternity
